Unattended remote access to your PCs
Office PCs, the PCs of customers with a support contract, the computer that is always on in the warehouse: with Walkie Desk you reach them whenever you need, even when nobody is at the screen, and you connect from your browser.
What «unattended» means
In a quick support session someone has to be at the PC to accept the connection. With unattended access they do not: the PC is already paired with your account, so you connect in the evening, at the weekend or while the user is on holiday, for updates, checks or to fetch a file. On Windows, Walkie Desk runs as a service and starts with the system.
How to set up a PC
-
Install Walkie Desk
From the Download page: signed setup for 64-bit Windows 10, Windows 11, Windows Server 2022 and 2025 (you need an administrator account on the PC), packages for Linux and, in beta, for Macs with Apple silicon or Intel processors.
-
Pair the PC
In the user area, under «My devices», generate a 9-character pairing code; on the PC click the Walkie Desk icon near the clock, choose «Pair with an account» and enter it.
-
Connect whenever you like
The PC appears in your list: open it from the browser, up to 3 PCs at once with the same seat.
What if the PC is not in your account?
From version 0.10.0 every PC with Walkie Desk for Windows, Linux or Mac also has an ID and a password, shown in the Walkie Desk app. With «Connect with ID» you reach a PC that is not paired with your account, for example a colleague’s or an occasional customer’s: by default the person at the PC must confirm the connection. For true unattended access with ID and password, the PC’s administrator chooses a password of their own and removes the confirmation; with the random password shown in the app the confirmation always stays. For the PCs you look after all the time, pairing them with your account is still more convenient. Details in remote access with ID and password.
Control and transparency
- A PC joins the account only with a one-time code you generate; it is removed from the account in the user area.
- Whoever administers the PC sees the authorised accounts in the Walkie Desk app in the Windows taskbar and can revoke their access; they also decide whether file transfer is allowed, must be confirmed every time or is not allowed.
- If someone is at the PC during the session, they see a red frame with the name of the person connected and the «End» button.
- Every account has a mandatory second factor (authenticator app, security key or passkey; no SMS).
- For access with ID and password, the PC’s administrator decides whether it is on, whether the person at the PC must confirm and which password to use; the app reports wrong attempts.
- Sessions are end-to-end encrypted and the servers are in Italy, with data in the European Union.
Many PCs, no cost per device
There is no limit on the number of paired PCs, and in the user area you organise them in folders. You pay for connected technicians, not for the computers you look after: a seat is one technician with up to 3 PCs open at once, and a PC that is switched on and waiting does not count. Walkie Desk for Windows updates itself, without interrupting sessions and only with signed updates; updates can be postponed or turned off (how they work).
Walkie Desk is in beta: during the beta, anyone who signs up for professional use receives 2 complimentary seats, with no expiry for the whole beta and free for a further 6 months after it ends; for personal use there is the free Personal plan. It is an experimental service, which may have interruptions and change.
Frequently asked questions
Does the PC have to stay on?
Yes. Walkie Desk reaches a PC that is switched on and connected to the Internet; a PC that is off or asleep cannot be reached. On the PCs you want to reach, it is worth turning off automatic sleep.
Can I connect when the PC is locked?
Yes, on Windows PCs: Walkie Desk runs as a service, so you also see the lock screen, unlock Windows with the password and, if needed, use the Ctrl+Alt+Del button.
Does it work on Windows Server?
Yes: Walkie Desk supports 64-bit Windows Server 2022 and Windows Server 2025, as well as Windows 10 (version 2004 or later) and Windows 11, and Linux with Xorg sessions; in beta also macOS on Macs with Apple silicon or Intel processors.
Can I reach a PC with ID and password with nobody in front of it?
Yes, if the PC’s administrator allows it: they choose their own password in the Walkie Desk app and turn off “Ask the person at the PC to confirm”. With the random password, instead, the connection starts only after the person at the PC confirms. Whoever connects always has a Walkie Desk account with a second factor, and the frame on the PC still shows who is connected.
