An alternative to TeamViewer and AnyDesk
Whoever connects installs nothing: the browser is enough. Sessions are end-to-end encrypted and the server can neither see nor alter them. You pay per seat, with unlimited PCs and registered technicians, and there is a free plan for personal use. It is developed and run by an Italian company, with data in the European Union. Below is what you can do today in three concrete situations and, just as clearly, the limits to weigh before choosing.
Comparison updated on 1 November 2026, with version 0.10.5 for Windows, Linux and Mac.
Why consider Walkie Desk
- Technicians work from the browser. Chrome, Edge or Firefox, even from a phone: nothing to install or update on the computer you connect from.
- One technician, one licence. You pay for the seat, that is one connected technician with up to 3 PCs open at once. Paired PCs and registered technicians are unlimited and a PC that is switched on and waiting does not count.
- Free Personal plan for personal, non-commercial use, with some limits.
- End-to-end encryption with signed parameters. Every device has its own key that signs the session parameters, so the server cannot get in the middle or read or alter the content.
- Servers in Italy, data in the EU. Developed and run by iDev S.r.l., an Italian company.
- Mandatory second factor for everyone, with an authenticator app, security key or passkey; no SMS.
- ID and password without the server seeing the password. Every PC with Walkie Desk for Windows, Linux or Mac has an ID and a password, as in QuickSupport: the password is checked between the browser and the PC, the person at the PC confirms the connection, and whoever connects always has an account with a second factor.
- Voice and video calls in the browser (in beta). The technician calls from the viewer and on the PC the call opens in a browser page: nothing to install, end-to-end encrypted, never recorded.
Three concrete situations
1. You are a technician working on your own
What you can do today
- With the Professional plan one seat is you, with up to 3 PCs open at once; during the beta you get 2 complimentary seats, with no expiry for the whole beta and free for a further 6 months after it ends.
- You pair the PCs of customers with a support contract, with no limit on their number, and reach them even when nobody is in front of them (unattended access), organised in folders.
- For a new customer you use QuickSupport: they run it without installing it and without an account, read you the ID and password and accept the connection.
- You work from the browser, even from a phone; with Windows, Linux and Mac PCs and with QuickSupport you also get files and folders and chat; you can record the session with every system.
- With Windows, Linux, Mac and QuickSupport you call the customer or start a video call from the viewer (in beta) and, when needed, hear the PC’s audio; a customer who already has Walkie Desk installed reads you the ID and password and confirms the connection.
- Image quality adapts by itself to the customer’s network, even when it is slow or congested.
Limits to weigh
- QuickSupport exists only for Windows: customers with Linux or a Mac need Walkie Desk installed (in beta on the Mac).
- Calls are not available from the phone and tablet app yet.
- No remote printing and, for now, no Wake-on-LAN: the PC must be switched on and connected to the Internet.
- It is a beta: the service may have interruptions and change.
2. You run a small support business with several operators
What you can do today
- Invite operators into your account from the Team page, each with their own sign-in, their own second factor and a role: owner, administrator or technician. The new colleague joins after comparing 24 digits by voice with an administrator.
- All operators see all the account’s PCs and connect without pairing them again; if you remove a technician from the team, their access to the PCs ends at once.
- A single subscription: the seats (2 complimentary per account during the beta) belong to the whole team.
- Several operators can connect to the same PC together and write to each other in the session chat.
- Seats count the operators connected at the same time, not the PCs you look after.
- A PC with Walkie Desk installed (Windows, Linux or Mac) that is not paired with an operator can still be reached with ID and password, with the confirmation of the person at the PC; the operator then finds it under “Recent”.
Limits to weigh
- The Personal plan does not include colleagues: a team needs the Professional plan.
- With QuickSupport one operator connects at a time.
- One call at a time per PC, between one operator and the person at the PC: no calls between operators and no conferences.
How it works in detail: working with several technicians.
3. You want to reach your own computers
What you can do today
- The Personal plan is free for personal, non-commercial use: up to 3 paired PCs, 1 PC open at a time.
- You reach your home PC from the browser of another computer, a phone or a tablet, with no VPN and no ports to open on the router.
- You help a family member with QuickSupport: they run it without installing it and always see that you are connected.
- The PC to reach can run Windows, Linux or, in beta, macOS on Macs with Apple silicon or Intel processors, with the same features as Windows: files and folders, chat, recording, PC audio, ID and password, voice and video calls.
Limits to weigh
- On the Mac Walkie Desk is in beta and runs on Macs with Apple silicon and, from 0.10.5, also on those with Intel processors (macOS 13.3 or later). From 0.10.3 the periodic screen recording confirmation asked by macOS 15 should no longer appear (details).
- On Linux Xorg sessions are required; automatic updates exist only on Windows.
- On the Personal plan, sessions through the relay server have a monthly cap in hours (direct ones do not) and the PC shows “free session for personal use”.
- The Android app is on Google Play; the iPhone and iPad app is in testing: from an iPhone or iPad you connect with the browser today.

- calls from the phone and tablet app; calls with more than two people;

The up-to-date list of what is in development is on the Features page.
How to compare prices
Remote access products count licences in different ways: per user, per managed device, per concurrent session, with add-ons. For a fair comparison, start from how many technicians work at the same time and how many PCs you look after, and check the current terms on the official sites: TeamViewer, AnyDesk, Chrome Remote Desktop. Walkie Desk’s figures are on the Pricing page.

Yes. Walkie Desk is developed and run by iDev S.r.l., an Italian company; the servers are in Italy and data and backups stay in the European Union.
Can I try Walkie Desk alongside the program I use today?
Yes: sign-up is open, technicians install nothing and QuickSupport does not stay installed on the customer’s PC. You can try it on a few PCs before deciding.
