Remote desktop in your browser
With Walkie Desk you open the desktop of a faraway PC in a Chrome, Edge or Firefox tab and use it as if you were sitting in front of it. Nothing to install on the computer you work from: the browser is all you need.
How remote control from the browser works
-
Install Walkie Desk on the PC to control
Download the program from the Download page and install it on the PC you want to reach: Windows, Linux or, in beta, Macs with Apple silicon or Intel processors.
-
Pair the PC with your account
In the user area you generate a 9-character one-time code, valid for a few minutes, and enter it in the program with «Pair with an account». From then on the PC appears among your devices.
-
Connect from the browser
From any computer, sign in at walkiedesk.app with your account and second factor, choose the PC and work as if you were there.
For a quick session on a PC you have not set up there is QuickSupport: the person who needs help runs it without installing it and reads you the ID and password. From version 0.10.0 a PC with Walkie Desk installed (Windows, Linux or Mac) that is not in your account can also be reached with ID and password, with the confirmation of the person at the PC.
What you can do on the remote PC
Keyboard and mouse
Keyboard layout and AltGr, wheel, double click and drag; Ctrl+Alt+Del with a button; in full screen also Esc, Win and Alt+Tab, where the browser allows it.
Multiple monitors
Choose which monitor of the remote PC to see; the cursor shape is the PC’s own.
Clipboard and «Type text»
Copy and paste text between your computer and the remote PC, or have a text typed on the PC when the clipboard is not enough.
Files and folders
With Windows, Linux and Mac PCs and with QuickSupport you browse the PC’s folders and copy files and folders in both directions, with pause and resume. With Firefox and Safari received folders arrive file by file in Downloads.
Chat
With Windows, Linux and Mac PCs and with QuickSupport you write to whoever is at the PC and to the colleagues connected; messages are not saved.
Recording
You record the session to a video file saved only on your device; the PC shows “Recording in progress” and in QuickSupport the person at the PC must consent. With Windows, Linux, Mac and QuickSupport.
PC audio
When you need it, you hear in the browser what the PC is playing; it is off at the start of every session and the PC shows when it is on. The volume is yours alone. With Windows, Linux, Mac and QuickSupport.
Voice and video calls Beta
Talk to the person at the PC, and see each other on video: on the PC the call opens in a browser page once they answer, with nothing else to install. End-to-end encrypted and never recorded. With Windows, Linux, Mac and QuickSupport; not yet from the phone and tablet app.
View only
Watch the screen without sending keyboard and mouse, for example to follow the work of whoever is at the PC.
Smooth video
The PC encodes the video in H.264 with the NVIDIA or Intel graphics card, when there is one, otherwise with the OpenH264 software codec; up to 60 frames per second.
Why work from the browser
Technicians do not have to install or update a program on their own computer: you can connect from the office PC, from a laptop on the road or from a customer’s computer. The browser keeps its own key, which cannot be exported; the first time you use a new browser you approve it with a passkey or from a browser you have already approved. Remote control also works in the browser of phones and tablets: how to control your PC from your phone.
A direct, encrypted connection
With WebRTC the browser and the PC connect directly whenever the network allows it, with no VPN and no ports to open on the firewall. Otherwise traffic goes through our relay server in Italy. Either way video, audio, keyboard, mouse, clipboard, files, chat and calls are end-to-end encrypted, and the parameters of each session are signed by the devices: the server can neither read nor alter the session. Every account has a mandatory second factor, and whoever is at the PC sees a red frame with the name of the person connected. More on the Security page.
One technician, one licence
Walkie Desk is paid per seat: a seat is one connected technician, with up to 3 PCs open at once. PCs paired with the account are unlimited, and a PC that is switched on and waiting does not count. For personal, non-commercial use there is the free Personal plan. Figures and details on the Pricing page.
Walkie Desk is in beta: during the beta, anyone who signs up for professional use receives 2 complimentary seats, with no expiry for the whole beta and free for a further 6 months after it ends; for personal use there is the free Personal plan. It is an experimental service, which may have interruptions and change.
